(Another) Perfect Day

Yesterday turned out to be another perfect day on the water. The sun shone from rising and continued shining all day, with not a cloud in the sky. The wind kept down to a gentle slightly cooling breeze that didn’t send me running for a sweater. In short – perfect. Today’s forecast is for the same. I hope so as we are having my Uncle Ken by for lunch.

We’ve had people come and go from the sites at both sides of us. Today there was another turnover. The people on one side of us also have three dogs, all of whom are older geriatric pooches. They are a quiet bunch. These people are in a small Airstream (silver bullet) with not much room inside (we’ve seen them at rv shows). I wonder how they managed with 3 big dogs inside all day yesterday? They have a little tent, a screen dining tent, various bins and boxes of stuff.

It is interesting to see the different styles of camping that people do and how they set up their campsite. Some people don’t put anything more than a chair outside, some just a tablecloth and a bbq, and others go all out with dining shelters, chairs, bbq’s, tents, bikes, canoes, etc.

We are somewhere in the middle. Our fence makes us look like permanent residents, even though it takes minutes to put up. I always have a tablecloth out, and often a little plastic drawer on the seat for odds and ends. Then of course there is the carpet, Grace’s cage and the dogs’ bed. Sometimes I add a quilt and a fluffy pillow so I can lounge on the grass and read. For this long trip we also have a shade tent, lanterns (that we haven’t used), water jug and dishpans. We tend to set up our site the same each time. Part of site layout is dictated by the white plastic panels that go along the bottom of the RV (they make one side of the fence). The picnic table has to go against this to keep it up. So the rest of the site gets arranged around this. I guess I’m a bit of a nester and this is my way of creating a home feel for a strange locale.

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.
