seeing red

I am Pink. Not an angry red, but the pink of lots of sunscreen and too many hours bobbing in a warm ocean. If I look closely in the mirror I can see random areas of brighter red… areas unreached by sunscreen. Oops.

Today we are in St. Maarten. We walked about 20 minutes to the beach where for $15 we got two chairs and an umbrella, and for another $10, a bucket of 5 beers. Oh yeah. This is the life.

Our chairs were just feet from a gorgeous blue ocean bay with white sand and a light surf. We had interesting people (Marilyn & Ed), around us so the few hours we thought we’d spend turned into four. I was into the water countless times as the afternoon wore on. The water was super salty which made us buoyant - Carm tried to get underwater for a photo but could barely make himself sink.

I am loving my waterproof camera, although it does feel weird to bring it into the ocean with me!

The sun was shining, a breeze was blowing, the water had only a gentle wave. In other words, it was heaven.

At 2:30 we finally dragged ourselves away from this Paradise - we were hungry and burnt out from the sun, but gosh, it would have been easy to order up another bucket!

We grabbed a quick salad at the international cafe (a thai beef salad for me), then had a short rest in our room, and before we knew it, it was time to get dressed up for supper. We sat with people from Connecticut and Long Island. The food was good - I skipped the crusty roll with scads of butter tonight - surely that will save a million calories!

A comedian was on the stage tonight and he was pretty darn funny. After that we wandered around looking for music but not having much luck. The piano player in the wheelhouse stopped playing soon after we got there and we couldn’t see where the house band might be. We are missing all the nights in the Wheelhouse bar on the Coral. Oh, what I’d give to see Blue Jade, or someone like them, again.

We are beat though so an earlyish night isn’t the worst thing!
