Bohemian Rhapsody

It’s 1:30 in the afternoon… we were up late… I had a makeover which may end up costing us millions of dollars in new stuff and sadly didn’t turn me into Christie Brinkley… we’ve had iced caps… lunch… seen a teenage boy with a huge mullet… had some salad...

Time now for a movie in our room - Bohemian Rhapsody - which so far is good and I expect it will get better as the music reels up.

,,, the movie was great! Not just great, excellent. If you love Queen music, well, this is the show for you.

Our lazy day continued with drinks in the piazza before supper followed by a leisurely supper with people from Mass. and Ohio. We skipped dessert to spend some time on the balcony.

The show was an excellent musical production with a guy from Las Vegas who is a music impersonator. It was fun with lots of good music, and our favorite, the Princess band, as the backup. After the show we raced to get seats in the piazza as the band was playing, along with some other people for a ½ hour show.

Now, our day is done and although ‘Black Panther’ is playing on the tv, I hope to turn out the lights soon - we get up at 7:30 tomorrow for turnaround day.

lipstick on a pig

The next two days are sea days… which means two days of sleep ins, eating, naps, a bit of tv (Love Boat!), and people watching in the piazza. This morning I watched a dance class, watched because Carm was busy with trivia. The guy with one leg was doing a better job than we ever did in our hours of ballroom dancing classes!

The air conditioning is set on high/cold throughout the ship, so I had to come back to the room for a sweater, and to spend some time on the balcony to warm up. Up high in the sky was a smudge of rainbow. It seemed like really good luck!

I went to a lipstick seminar and the consultant put a really bright coral on me, which I could tell by the look on everyone’s face that it wasn’t a good match… one lady said I had nice lips though. I’ve never had much luck with coral.

Formal night tonight so we really dolled ourselves up for supper. Carm looked dashing in his suit and I think I looked pretty good in my ‘little black dress’ and my extreme bling necklace. We sat with people from Portland, and somewhere else that I don’t remember - oh wait - Florida. Lobster was on the menu for tonight.

The show tonight was ‘Bravo’, primarily a singing extravaganza with a dash of dancing. They brought in a soprano from Boston for the starring role. It was excellent and we’ll see it again next week. In fact, we will see all the production shows again next week.

After the show, we stopped at the makeup/perfume place to ask the lipstick girl a few questions and she offered to do a full makeover on one of our remaining days. I think I’ll take her up on it - maybe I’ll learn something earth shattering.

For the finale of the night we watched the Janos quartet. Several people got up to dance (not us though)... Some are novices, some have obviously taken lots of classes (they know all the moves), but are a little wooden, one couple where the lady was flamboyant (they took up much of the dance floor), and others having fun.

We’ve been watching MSNBC for our news, and I hate it. We have the international version which replaces the commercials with really loud, repetitive, and annoying plugs for their show. They boost the volume several notches, so it is obnoxious. I’ve seen these ads a million times and they don’t improve with time.

Tomorrow is another sea day.

seeing red

I am Pink. Not an angry red, but the pink of lots of sunscreen and too many hours bobbing in a warm ocean. If I look closely in the mirror I can see random areas of brighter red… areas unreached by sunscreen. Oops.

Today we are in St. Maarten. We walked about 20 minutes to the beach where for $15 we got two chairs and an umbrella, and for another $10, a bucket of 5 beers. Oh yeah. This is the life.

Our chairs were just feet from a gorgeous blue ocean bay with white sand and a light surf. We had interesting people (Marilyn & Ed), around us so the few hours we thought we’d spend turned into four. I was into the water countless times as the afternoon wore on. The water was super salty which made us buoyant - Carm tried to get underwater for a photo but could barely make himself sink.

I am loving my waterproof camera, although it does feel weird to bring it into the ocean with me!

The sun was shining, a breeze was blowing, the water had only a gentle wave. In other words, it was heaven.

At 2:30 we finally dragged ourselves away from this Paradise - we were hungry and burnt out from the sun, but gosh, it would have been easy to order up another bucket!

We grabbed a quick salad at the international cafe (a thai beef salad for me), then had a short rest in our room, and before we knew it, it was time to get dressed up for supper. We sat with people from Connecticut and Long Island. The food was good - I skipped the crusty roll with scads of butter tonight - surely that will save a million calories!

A comedian was on the stage tonight and he was pretty darn funny. After that we wandered around looking for music but not having much luck. The piano player in the wheelhouse stopped playing soon after we got there and we couldn’t see where the house band might be. We are missing all the nights in the Wheelhouse bar on the Coral. Oh, what I’d give to see Blue Jade, or someone like them, again.

We are beat though so an earlyish night isn’t the worst thing!
