We are Here!

We made it safe and sound after an uneventful drive. The house seems so huge after our cramped quarters of the last 23 days but I’m sure we’ll adjust quickly. The dogs were glad to stretch their legs without leashes attached, but they are so exhausted their enthusiasm didn’t last long. They are crashed out on various couches and dog beds now.

As we were tearing down this morning the couple from next door (who we hadn’t met up till now) stopped by to compliment us on our dogs. They were very impressed with how quiet they were (only one little yip heard) and also that when we walk them we don’t let them pee over everyone’s site. I think that might be a big peeve with people… and I don’t blame them… I don’t want dogs peeing and pooping all over my site either. Anyway – it was nice for them to take time out from their day to comment – it kind of made my day :-)

Carm is out working on the pool – after 23 days of no pump and no chemicals it is a bit green…. a bit like the background colour of the blog. I know he’ll get the chemicals all worked out so that we can swim soon. It’s hot and a dip would really refresh. Maybe paired with a lemonade (you thought I was going to say something else!). Then there will be the giant piles of laundry to tackle… much to be done to get the rig ready for the next outing.

When you are here, you are here.
When you are gone, you are gone.
It isn't a problem to be gone,
so long as you are really here
         when you're here.

The Last Full Day Here

Tomorrow we leave… in the meantime though we made the most of our last day. It started off with a nice walk up to the lighthouse. As we got back to the truck we ran into a woman we had met a few days earlier – she had her son and his 4 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy. She was so cute we wanted another ridgeback (but then good sense returned!).

Carm made us our last pancake, bacon and eggs breakfast. He is a wizz in the galley when it comes to breakfast.

Then we tried going for a swim… we only got up to our mid-thighs but couldn’t work up the nerve to dunk ourselves at the drop-off. The water was COLD! We turned back to shore where we baked our legs in the sun to change their blue colour back to flesh.

The afternoon was spent with our books, lazing in the sun.

And now I’m drinking our last marg here until next year. Awwwww. We’ll have to keep up the marg tradition once we get home, just so we don’t get depressed over the ending of our vacation of course (so it’s medicinal!).

Tonight we are having a steak dinner, accompanied by a bottle of cold bubbles.

The vacation has been great, and not really as food and booze filled as it has seen from these posts – well, maybe just a bit boozy. I tried on the shorts that I wore coming here – they were tight then, but good news, I can still do them up so I probably haven’t gained THAT much weight. Tomorrow the scales will tell the truth.

Perhaps that is the secret. It is not what we do but so much as why we do it.

Burrrrrrr

Today, aside from our walk, I have only been venturing out of the camper bundled in woolly socks, long pants and sweaters. The wind is blowing a gale and the temperatures are cool – with the wind chill it is cchhhiiiillllllliiii…. We sure are glad to have such comfortable digs! It’s not a hardship to be stuck inside at all (Kabira and I have been under a blanket on the bed reading all afternoon – well, I’ve been reading, she’s just been sleeping). And we still have good views of the water (including from my “desk” where I’m writing this now). Does this make us bad campers? I suppose it must, but guess what, my style of “camping” is a-okay with me right now!

You would think that this cool weather would encourage us to load ourselves into the truck and go for a drive somewhere, but there is no where that is inspiring us as a destination. Speaking of destination, have you seen the trailers for the new “Final Destination” movie? Even just watching the short TV ads gives my brain enough fodder for bad dreams – I’d hate to see what would happen if I watched the whole movie! I’m such a wuss.

After today we have just one more full day before we head home. I’ll be sad to leave but sure will be glad to get home to my own bathing facilities! Cold (okay, lukewarm) showers are starting to get old and I can hardly wait to soak in a hot bubble bath…

Tonight we get to enjoy the Pepperoncini beef again – the beauty of a good sized freezer means I was able to save some for now. I just have to wash some spinach for a green salad and cut up a tomato and supper will be ready. Sometimes those really easy suppers are the best. Although last night was a cop out as well – hot dogs instead of the potato/spinach frittata that I had planned… at least we had a green salad and a tomato basil salad to “veg” it up a bit.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
